She really is Supergirl! The first born to SuperDad and Wonder Woman. There are so many things about being a dad that I love. One of the best is that you get to share the loves, dreams, and passions that you fostered as a child. It is incredible that you have that power and responsibility, as well as that ability to teach and share. It is a lot of pressure to as a Dad. Roller coaster emotional moments swinging from sheer joy, to pure fear.
Fear is a big one for most fathers. These wonderfully brilliant mini people don’t come with an instruction manual. There are no universal tools that we can stock on our workbench that will help us raise them in every situation. We are basically clueless. Our role models for Father’s, whether our own, or examples from real life or TV and Movies will either be a bar too high, or something we want to avoid or improve upon. The best we can realize to allay these fears is that we are not alone. There is a reason we lived in tribes as early civilization was formed. We need others to help us through this. If you are blessed to have a spouse and partner, that you can do this journey with, that is awesome! If not, I hope you can reach out to family and friends for support.
One thing to know for sure is that you will screw up. You won’t do everything right. You have to accept that. You also need to make sure that the victories outweigh the failures. You are in charge of these young superheroes and have a responsibility to train and prepare them for their own adventures. Just make sure to take the time to enjoy the adventure yourself. It’s not all about checking off the boxes. Heroic stories are always best when you immerse yourself in them. Same goes for being a Dad.
Remember the words of Uncle Ben; “With great power comes great responsibility!”
