Like the many of my favorite characters and fandoms; Spiderman, Star Trek, and so many more, I too am going through a re-boot. If you followed my journey, you know I went through my own physical reboot in May of 2014 I was blessed with a donor heart and received a heart transplant. As you can guess, that is a pretty life-altering experience to go through. I had started this blog once before, so here I am again rebooting the franchise.
One of the byproducts that have resulted post healing from a heart transplant is my focus on passion projects. Your priorities change, you develop a greater appreciation of many blessings that you have been given. Somehow in my life, I was given the gift of writing (I got published for writing poetry in the 5th grade). As a fan and consumer of stories, it makes sense that I want to tell them as well. I have been able to leverage that in my day job at our PR & Digital Marketing Agency, Sterling Cross Communications. For the most part though, that entails writing and telling the stories of others. I needed a vehicle for me to share my stories.
I originally started SuperDadsAlterEgo, a few years ago. As a person travels through life, there are several seasons. I went through a major one post starting that blog. My journey from being diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure to Heart Transplant. I kept journals of my life during that time as it was too raw, too painful, too frightening, and overwhelming at times. I was too close to the material.
I am two years post the heart transplant, and to a place where I can clarify and view those writings through a different filter. I have shared many of these stories with other heart patients, and friends. Now I feel ready to tell them here. Wow! I kind of sound a little bit “me” focused. My purpose isn’t to do that. I could care less about telling “My story” for the sake of me. I hope to tell these stories in hopes that they can help or inspire anyone else going through this journey.
I wouldn’t have done as well as I have without that support, so I hope to pay it forward here. I am already doing this full speed ahead over on my Low Sodium Food Blog, Hacking Salt. Food and nutrition is another huge aspect of healing and protecting my heart and health, and as long as I am learning the tricks to the low sodium life, I will share all of those there.
Here will be the home of the other aspects of my life, the geeky, quirky, nerdy, wackiness mixed in with tales from my greatest adventure ever of being a husband and a Dad. Thanks for checking it out. I hope that you poke around and visit from time to time. By all means chime in and add to the general ruckus!
